Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)

Job Description:

The Senior Patrol Leader is elected by the Scouts to represent them as the top junior leader in the troop.

 Reports to: Scoutmaster

Senior Patrol Leader duties:

bulletPreside at all troop meetings, events, activities, and the annual program planning conference.
bulletChair the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) meeting once a month. Attends at least 5/6 of the PLC meetings occurring during his service period.
bulletAppointed other boy leaders with the advice and consent of the Scoutmaster.
bulletAssign duties and responsibilities to other junior leaders.
bulletAssists with Scoutmaster in training junior leaders.
bulletDelegates task to the ASPLs. Makes sure an ASPL attends any meeting/function he will not be able to attend (troop, PLC, Committee Meeting, etc.)
bulletOversees the planning efforts of Scouts for all Troop campouts (whether he attends these outing or not).
bulletHas good attendance at Troop meeting.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of each event type during his service period.
bulletSet a good example.
bulletEnthusiastically wear the Scout Uniform correctly.
bulletLive by the Scout Oath and Law.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL)

Job Description:

The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is the second highest-ranking junior leader in the Troop. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with the approval of the Scoutmaster. The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader acts as the Senior Patrol Leader in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader or when called upon. He also provides leadership to other junior leaders in the Troop.

Reports to: Senior Patrol Leader

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader duties:

bulletHelp with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the Senior Patrol Leader.
bulletTake over troop leadership in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader.
bulletBe responsible for training and giving direct leadership to the following appointed junior leaders: Scribe, Librarian, Troop Historian, Instructor, Quartermaster and Chaplain Aide.
bulletPerform tasks assigned by the Senior Patrol Leader.
bulletServes as a member of the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) and attends at least 2/3 of the PLC meetings occurring during his service period.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of each event type during his service period.
bulletHas good attendance at Troop meeting.
bulletSet a good example.

Troop Quartermaster

Job Description:

The Troop Quartermaster keeps track of troop equipment and sees that it is in good working order.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Troop Quartermaster duties:

bulletKeep records on patrol and troop equipment.
bulletKeep equipment in good repair.
bulletIssue equipment and see that it is returned in good order.
bulletSuggest new or replacement items.
bulletWork with the troop committee member responsible for equipment.
bulletHave good attendance at Troop meeting.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of each event type during his service period.
bulletSet a good example.
bulletEnthusiastically wear the Scout Uniform correctly.

Troop Scribe

Job Description:

The Troop Scribe keeps the troop records. He records the activities of the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) and keeps a record of dues, advancement, and Scout attendance at troop meetings.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Troop Scribe duties:

bulletAttend and keep a log of Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) Meetings.

bulletRecord advancement in troop records.

Troop Guide

Job Description:

To work actively with new Scouts in the Baden-Powell program.

The Troop Guides introduce new Scouts to troop operations and helps them feel comfortable in the troop.

Reports to: The Assistant Scoutmaster of the Baden-Powell patrol ( New Scout Patrol )

Troop Guide duties:

bulletHelp new Scouts earn advancement requirements through First Class.
bulletAdvise patrol leader on his duties and responsibilities at Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) meetings.
bulletAttend Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meetings with the New Scout Patrol Leader.
bulletPrevent harassment of new Scouts by older Scouts.
bulletHelp Assistant Scoutmaster train new Scouts by older Scouts.
bulletGuide new Scouts through early troop experiences to help them become comfortable in the troop and the outdoors.
bulletTeach basic Scout skills.
bulletHave good attendance at Troop meeting.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of each event type during his service period.
bulletSet a good example.

Instructor

Job Description: The Instructor teaches scouting skills.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Instructor duties:

bulletPrepare well in advance for each teaching assignment.

Bugler

Job Description: The Bugler plays the bugle at troop ceremonies.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Librarian

Job Description: The Librarian takes care of troop literature.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Librarian duties:

bulletEstablish and take care of the troop library.

- Keep records on literature owned by the troop.
- Add new or replacement items as needed.
- Keep books and pamphlets available for borrowing at troop meetings.
- Keep a system for checking books and pamphlets in and out.
- Follow up on late returns.

Historian

Job Description: The Historian keeps a historical record or scrapbook of troop activities.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Historian duties:

bulletGather pictures and facts about past troop activities and keeps them in scrapbooks, wall displays or informational  ( historical ) files.
bulletTake care of troop trophies, ribbons, and souvenirs of troop activities.
bulletKeep information about former members of the troop.
bulletSet a good example.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of each event type during his service period.
bulletEnthusiastically wear the Scout Uniform correctly.

OA Troop Representative

Job Description: An Order of the Arrow Troop Representative is a youth liaison serving between the local OA lodge or chapter and his troop. In his troop, he serves as a communication and programmatic link to the Arrowman and adult leaders and Scouts who are not presently members of the Order. He does this in a fashion that strengthens the mission of the lodge and purpose of the Order. By setting a good example, he enhances the image of the Order as a service arm to his troop.

Reports to: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

OA Troop Representative duties:

bulletServes as a communication link between the lodge or chapter and the troop.
bulletEncourages year round and resident camping in the troop.
bulletEncourages older Scout participation in high adventure programs.
bulletEncourages Scouts to actively participate in community service projects.
bulletAssists with leadership skills training in the troop.
bulletEncourages Arrowmen to assume leadership positions in the troop.
bulletEncourages Arrowmen in the troop to be active participants in the lodge and/or chapter activities and to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members.

Den Chief (optional)

Job Description:

The Den Chief works with the Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, and den leaders in the Cub Scout pack.

Reports to: The Den Leader in the pack and the Assistant Scoutmaster for the New Scout Patrol in the troop.

Den Chief duties:

bulletServe as the activities assistant at den meetings.
bulletMeet regularly with the Den Leader to review the den and pack meeting plans.
bulletIf serving as a Webelos Den Chief, prepare boys to join Boy Scouting.
bulletProject a positive image of Boy Scouting.
bulletKnow the purposes of Cub Scouting.
bulletEncourage Cub Scouts to join a Boy Scout troop upon graduation.
bulletHelp out at weekly den meetings and monthly pack meetings.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of the den meetings/events during his service period.
bulletBe a friend to the boys in the den.

Chaplain Aide (optional)

Job Description:

The Chaplain Aide works with the Troop Chaplain to meet the religious needs of the Scouts in the troop. He also works to promote the religious emblems program.

Reports to:the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (and works with the Chaplain)

Chaplain Aide duties:

bulletKeep troop leader appraised of religious holidays when planning activities.
bulletAssist Chaplain or religious coordinator in meeting the religious needs of troop members while on activities.
bulletEncourage saying grace at meals while camping or on activities.
bulletTell Scouts about the religious emblem program of their faith.
bulletHelp plan for religious observance in troop activities.
bulletAttends at least 2/3 of each event type during his service period.

Junior Assistant Scoutmaster(optional)

Job Description:

The Junior Assistant Scoutmaster serves in the capacity of an Assistant Scoutmaster except where legal age and maturity are required. He must be at least 16 years old and not yet 18 and be an Eagle Scout. He is appointed by the Scoutmaster because of his demonstrated leadership ability.

Reports to: The Scoutmaster

Junior Assistant Scoutmaster duties:

bulletFunction as an Assistant Scoutmaster (except for leadership responsibilities reserved for adults 18 and 21 years of age or older).
bulletAccomplish any duties assigned by the Scoutmaster.

Patrol Leader

Job Description:

The Patrol Leader is elected by the patrol and leads the patrol.

Assistant Patrol Leader (APL)

Job Description:

The Assistant Patrol Leader is appointed by the Patrol Leader and leads the patrol in his absence.

Patrol Quartermaster

Job Description:

The Patrol Quartermaster is appointed by the Patrol Leader. He checks out and checks in required equipment from the Troop Quartermaster. He also makes sure everyone in his patrol has required equipment for each event. He keeps patrol gear organized and knows who has it.

Reports to: Both the Patrol Leader and the Troop Quartermaster

Patrol Quartermaster duties:

bulletKeeps all the patrol gear in order and knows who has it.
bulletReminds patrol members to bring gear to the meeting before each campout.
bulletTells Troop Quartermaster or adult Equipment Coordinator if something is broken.
bulletMakes sure the gear is in proper shape when it's time to check the troop gear back into the storage trailer at the end of the year. (If gear is not checked in at the end of year, YOU NEED TO KEEP IT IN GOOD ORDER UNTIL NEXT YEAR.
bulletSets the example for the patrol.

Patrol Scribe

Job Description:

The Patrol Scribe is appointed by the Patrol Leader and keeps patrol records.

Reports to: the Patrol Leader

Patrol Scribe duties:

bulletKeep the patrol log which contains minutes of last patrol meeting, duty roster, etc.
bulletRead the log of the last patrol meeting.
bulletKeep attendance records and collects dues.
bulletPrepare budget for buying patrol equipment.
bulletCollect the money for buying food.
bulletGive the Grubmaster a receipt for his records.
bulletSet a good example.

Grubmaster

Job Description:

The Grubmaster is appointed by the Patrol Leader and shops for food. Duties rotates each outing.

Chief Cook

Job Description:

The Chief Cook is appointed by the Patrol Leader and prepares eatable food for the patrol. Duties rotate for each outing.

Chief Cook duties:

bulletOrganize the meal.
bulletSupervise helpers (if any).
bulletMake sure the meal is prepared well and on time.
bulletAssign cleaning up jobs for the pots, pans, and patrol cooking utensils.

Job Description:

The Cheermaster is appointed by the Patrol Leader and is responsible for keeping moral high in the Patrol.
